I put Middle Earth Journal in hiatus in May of 2008 and moved to Newshoggers.
I temporarily reopened Middle Earth Journal when Newshoggers shut it's doors but I was invited to Participate at The Moderate Voice so Middle Earth Journal is once again in hiatus.

As my dear old mum always says, "In a pig's eye"

I happen to believe that western societies need to do more to open themselves to Muslim culture, and I do not agree with kicking people out of your country just because they disagree with your government's positions, but THIS IS RIDICULOUS.
Alas, the United Kingdom's descent into dhimmitude is beyond parody. Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council (Tory-controlled) has now announced that, following a complaint by a Muslim employee, all work pictures and knick-knacks of novelty pigs and "pig-related items" will be banned. Among the verboten items is one employee's box of tissues, because it features a representation of Winnie the Pooh and Piglet. And, as we know, Muslims regard pigs as "unclean", even an anthropomorphised cartoon pig wearing a scarf and a bright, colourful singlet.

Along with Winnie the Pooh, some British schools have also removed or restricted the following "anti-Muslim" children's books...

The Three Little Pigs
Charlottes Web
Babe - The Sheep-pig
Cars and Trucks and Things That Go
Olivia Saves the Circus
Animal Farm

Ok... pigs may be "unclean" animals, and you don't want to eat them. That's fine. But if you think you can go through life in another country and never even see a pig, I think your expectations are a bit unrealistic. Remember, assimilating into a new culture that welcomes you also carries the unspoken implication that you will embrace and understand their culture as well, including being tolerant of traditions where the two of you may differ.

Besides, I've always LOVED Piglet!
