M.E.J. Takes a Stand Against Dolphin Fighting

As serious as the Michael Vick case is, and as repulsed as I am by the whole affair, I had to get a chuckle out of this gem uncovered by Joe Gandelman this week. It seems that the normally reliable MSNBC was left with a bit of egg on their face during their endless coverage of the star quarterback's dog fighting saga. In their zeal to find a new spin for the story they did an Internet search and came up with a "quote" from the Rev. Al Sharpton. They ran with it.

"If the police caught Brett Favre (a white quarterback for the Green Bay Packers) running a dolphin-fighting ring out of his pool, where dolphins with spears attached to their foreheads fought each other, would they bust him? Of course not," Sharpton wrote Tuesday on his personal blog .

Unfortunately for those editors not quite bright enough to sense something fishy (errr... sorry) about the quote, it wasn't actually Reverend Al's "personal blog. I'll let you click through to The Moderate Voice for all the hilarious details.
