I put Middle Earth Journal in hiatus in May of 2008 and moved to Newshoggers.
I temporarily reopened Middle Earth Journal when Newshoggers shut it's doors but I was invited to Participate at The Moderate Voice so Middle Earth Journal is once again in hiatus.

Terri Schiavo's Legacy

We need a new word for Tom DeLay and his cronies on the theocratic right. Wingnut is no longer strong enough. The New York Times has an editorial on the most recent attack on the judiciary by DeLay and Senator John Cornyn, also a Texan we should note.
[I]t was appalling when the House majority leader threatened political retribution against judges who did not toe his extremist political line. But when a second important Republican stands up and excuses murderous violence against judges as an understandable reaction to their decisions, then it is time to get really scared.
I don't know if it's time to be scared or time to be a little hopeful. The Terri Schiavo media event showed us that a vast majority of the Americans have not been drinking quite as much kool-aide as we thought. I can't see how this recent seditious outbreak by DeLay and Cornyn cannot be a second wake up call. These men are un-American and their inference that Federal Judges could be killed for their decisions can only be described as sedition. As Jazz reported below Delay is rapidly losing support in his once very secure district.

It may turn out that in death Terri Schiavo played a part in saving the United States of America from the hypocritical theocrats led by Tom DeLay. Now that's a legacy.
