I put Middle Earth Journal in hiatus in May of 2008 and moved to Newshoggers.
I temporarily reopened Middle Earth Journal when Newshoggers shut it's doors but I was invited to Participate at The Moderate Voice so Middle Earth Journal is once again in hiatus.

Iraq, some good news......

....and for Mr Cheney's imperialist petroleum posse some bad.

Poll: Most Iraqis Oppose Troops' Presence
The good news is a majority of Iraqis seem to be willing to success out of the elections this week.
Three-quarters say they are confident about the parliamentary elections scheduled for this week. More than two-thirds expect things in their country to get better in the coming months.
As one would expect the Sunnis are less optimistic than the Shia or the Kurds. There does seem to be movement toward a political solution which is good news for the Iraqis and nearly everyone else.

The bad news is for the Cheney camp with dreams of a permanent presence in Iraq and control of the oil resources.
More than two-thirds of those surveyed oppose the presence of troops from the United States and its coalition partners and less than half, 44 percent, say their country is better off now than it was before the war.......

[.....]

A fourth of those surveyed, 26 percent, say U.S. forces should leave now, and another 19 percent say troops should leave after those chosen in this week's election take office. The other half say U.S. troops should stay until security is restored, 31 percent, until Iraqi forces can operate independently, 16 percent, or longer, 5 percent.
As far as the Iraqis are concerned there is a timetable.
