For DeLay it's mostly bad news

Well after several hours blogger is back up. I missed lots of news but I wasn't alone.

The big news is Tom delay is going to trial in Texas and Darth Cheney is Scheduled To Headline DeLay Fundraiser Monday. DeLay's legal woes will be on the front page for months just as the 2006 election campaigns get underway and Cheney is right in the middle of all the bad press the Republicans can get. The question we have to keeping asking ourselves is: is it hubris or stupidity? Joe Gandelman as usual sums it up as good as anybody.

But the BIG photo op will be of Cheney being AT the fundraiser. And what does THAT mean? Cheney is — once again — providing the very worst imagery for the GOP. To be sure, there are many Republicans who will defend DeLay...but there are also some that will want to keep a distance because the DeLay story is going to reinforce perceptions that the GOP has grown arrogant and corrupt in power.

Meanwhile there is unrest in the Republican House with many lawmakers want the age of DeLay behind them. In addition a CNN/USA today poll shows that DeLay is in serious trouble in his own district with only 36% saying they would vote for him while 49% support his Democratic challenger.
