I put Middle Earth Journal in hiatus in May of 2008 and moved to Newshoggers.
I temporarily reopened Middle Earth Journal when Newshoggers shut it's doors but I was invited to Participate at The Moderate Voice so Middle Earth Journal is once again in hiatus.

Are Lieberman's Days Numbered?

"When you've become the president's best friend on the war in Iraq, you should not be in office, especially if you're in the opposing party. I'm going to do everything I can to see that Joe Lieberman does not get a free pass."
That was Lowell P. Weicker Jr, former governor of Connecticut. Joe Lieberman, the consumate DINO and biggest Bush cheerleader in the minority party, appears to have no serious opposition for another term in the Senate. This must be puzzling for most progressives, since Connecticut is a fairly solid blue state and Lieberman continues to cause jaws to drop among Democrats each time he opens his mouth. Weicker gets some immediate respect from me becasuse he's a Former Republican who left the party and ran for Governor as an independent before retiring. On the negative side, he is well into his seventies, and that may cause some voters to feel reluctant to put him into a six year term of office. Also, he doesn't seem all that enthusiastic himself.
"If he's out there scot-free and nobody will do it, I'd have to give serious thought to doing it myself, and I don't want to do it," added Mr. Weicker, an independent, who said he had been opposed to the war from the beginning.
Not exactly an "up and at 'em" type of start for a campaign announcement. But the fact remains, it would certainly be interesting to see somebody with a solid record opposing the Iraq invasion knocking Joe off his comfortable little perch.
