I put Middle Earth Journal in hiatus in May of 2008 and moved to Newshoggers.
I temporarily reopened Middle Earth Journal when Newshoggers shut it's doors but I was invited to Participate at The Moderate Voice so Middle Earth Journal is once again in hiatus.

You ain't seen nothing yet?

Over at The Moderate Voice Jonathan Singer thinks the Abramoff Probe may cause the Republicans and the Bush administration more problems than Fitzgerald's investigation.
Scooter Libby was not the only Bush administration official to be indicted this month. In September, the White House's top procurement official, David Safavian, was arrested in connection to his ties to GOP superlobbyist Jack Abramoff; early this month, Safavian was indicted on the same basis. And now, as Josephine Hearn reports for The Hill, a key Republican Senator is taking the investigation into Abramoff's shady dealings directly into Bush's backyard.
I think he may be right but for the wrong reasons. Singer thinks that Senator John McCain will be the source of the problems. Unless McCain has had some sort of rebirth as a principled lawmaker I don't see him making any serious waves for the Republican party or the Bush administration. Over the last few years the once principled McCain has become just another partisan political hack. He is not going to dig too deep unless he thinks the administration and the Republicans in power are going to go down anyway. While Abramoff's problems may become problems for the Republicans in power it will come from the courts not from some superficial investigation by John McCain.
