Senate Meets in Closed Session to Discuss Intelligence, Libby
The U.S. Senate went into a rare closed session today after Democrats invoked a seldom used rule to back their demands for greater oversight by the Republican-controlled body, particularly on the Bush administration's use of intelligence in taking the country to war in Iraq. This is a case of really going for the soft under belly of the Republicans. Reid and the Democrats have public opinion on their side and the Republicans know it. The attack on Senator Pat Roberts was especially satisfying.
The unexpected shutdown immediately provoked a furious reaction from Senate Republicans, who denounced it as a stunt and an affront.

Steve Soto says:
This comes a day after Bush had Andrew Card give Harry Reid no notice of his selection of Alito, so it appears that the Democrats have decided that if Bush wants war, he’ll get one every day from now on.Yes sometimes war is a good thing.

And for the record, the next time a GOP hack says the Democrats were engaging in a political stunt here, say two words: Terri Schiavo.

The Democrats have finally decided to go to war, and Reid obviously did this when he had the whole caucus lined up behind him in secrecy.
