Thank you for contacting me regarding the nomination of Condoleezza Rice to be Secretary Of State. I appreciate hearing from you, and I apologize for the delay in my response. I want you to know that I take the process of nominating and appointing Cabinet officials very seriously. Some people contended that Dr. Rice should have been rejected by the Senate because other role in the lead up to the Iraq war. I carefully considered the evidence to that effect, and reviewed the confirmation testimony of Dr. Rice. As a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee and one of 23 Senators who voted against authorizing the war with Iraq, I concluded that I hold the President, and not Dr. Rice, responsible for the selling, planning, and conduct of this war. For that reason, I voted to confirm her as Secretary of State. Please be assured that 1 will closely monitor Secretary Rice's performance as she assumes her new role.OK Mr. Wyden, I can understand holding the president resposible for the war but how about holding Dr. Rice responsible for her constant stream of lies.
Again, thank you for keeping me apprised of your interest in this issue. If I may be of assistance in the future, please do not hesitate to contact me.
