Tom Delay...Cornered Rat

First it was David Brooks indirectly attacking Tom DeLay. Then the Wall Street Journal Opinion Page. And Yesterday it was Howard Fineman. It would appear that rat, the bugman is cornered and it's not just those godless liberals anymore.



As Jazz reported this morning he is acting like a cornered rat. After the death of Terri Schiavo today Mr DeLay said the following:

Mrs. Schiavo’s death is a moral poverty and a legal tragedy. This loss happened because our legal system did not protect the people who need protection most, and that will change. The time will come for the men responsible for this to answer for their behavior, but not today. Today we grieve, we pray, and we hope to God this fate never befalls another. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Schindlers and with Terri Schiavo’s friends in this time of deep sorrow.

Even if this was not meant as a threat the lunatic fringe of the Religious right will certainly take it as a call to action. He had counted on the Terri Schiavo media event to counter the daily reports of ethical lapses and it backfired. He truly is a cornered rat and is acting like one.

The longer he sticks around the more damage he will do to the Republican party. I hope he manages to stick around until 2006.
