I put Middle Earth Journal in hiatus in May of 2008 and moved to Newshoggers.
I temporarily reopened Middle Earth Journal when Newshoggers shut it's doors but I was invited to Participate at The Moderate Voice so Middle Earth Journal is once again in hiatus.

President Codpiece's glorious adventure

Well happy anniversary ! As you know by now this is the third anniversary of the now infamous "Mission Accomplished". Over at Editor and Publisher Greg Mitchell fired up his time machine to remind us of what the brain trust at the New York Times was saying three years ago. He includes the "wisdom" of all of our favorites like Elisabeth Bumiller, Judith Miller and of course this quote from Chris Matthews:
"He won the war," boomed MSNBC's Chris Matthews. "He was an effective commander. Everybody recognizes that, I believe, except a few critics."
Oops! Colbert was right.

Update
There is some wisdom at the New York Times as Frank Rich demonstrates. Go read the entire piece but Rich has this to say about the May 1st anniversary.
All too fittingly, Tony Snow's appointment was announced just before May Day, a red-letter day twice over in the history of the Iraq war. It was on May 1 three years ago that Mr. Bush did his victory jig on the aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln. It was May 1 last year that The Sunday Times of London published the so-called Downing Street memo. These events bracket all that has gone wrong and will keep going wrong for this president until he comes clean.
