This is not a surprise:
Rep. DeLay Won't Seek Reelection
But it is bad news for the Democrats. It was becoming obvious that DeLay was probably going to lose in November at a time when the Republicans were going to have a difficult time hanging onto the House anyway. Another Republican can probably beat Nick Lampson. There may have been some pressure from the Republican Party since they were going to be forced to spend a great deal of money on what was looking to be a losing cause. Of course with the guilty plea of his deputy chief of staff, Tony C. Rudy last week maybe he just wants to spend some more time with his family before he is sent to prison.
As much as this turn of events pleases me it's also unfortunate for the Democrats.
