I put Middle Earth Journal in hiatus in May of 2008 and moved to Newshoggers.
I temporarily reopened Middle Earth Journal when Newshoggers shut it's doors but I was invited to Participate at The Moderate Voice so Middle Earth Journal is once again in hiatus.

Can a radioactive lame duck kill an elephant?

The graphic on the left didn't appear on a progressive site but at the right wing Townhall. While it's too early to write the elephant off it was not a good day for Republicans. One of the biggest events was the governors race in Virginia. While Kilgore probably didn't need any help to lose John Dickerson reported on the Al Franken show this morning that both Democratic and Republican tracking polls over the weekend showed the race to be a dead heat.
Following Bush's appearance on Monday Kilgore lost by over 100,000 votes. This means that Republican candidates will have to consider the possibility that Bush made things worse. Another trend that has to worry the GOP: In the Suburbs, Backlash Against Republicans Hits Hard
An anti-Republican sentiment spread across Northern Virginia yesterday as voters overwhelmingly cast their ballots for Democrats, sweeping aside the traditional Virginia formula in which Republicans carry the outer suburbs and Democrats win the inner ones.
For the GOP is it goodbye Soccer Moms?

And over on the left coast we have another lame duck Republican, Arnold Schwarzenegger. Voters Reject Schwarzenegger's Bid to Remake State Government
In a sharp repudiation of Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, voters rejected his most sweeping ballot proposals on Tuesday in an election that shattered his image as an agent of the popular will.

Voters turned down his proposals to curb state spending, redraw California's political map and lengthen the time it takes teachers to get tenure.
Arnold was supposed to be the GOP's great hope in California but now he's just another lame duck who the legislature can ignore for the next year until he is ejected from office in a legitimate election.
