I put Middle Earth Journal in hiatus in May of 2008 and moved to Newshoggers.
I temporarily reopened Middle Earth Journal when Newshoggers shut it's doors but I was invited to Participate at The Moderate Voice so Middle Earth Journal is once again in hiatus.

Peak Oil Crisis? No problem at Exxon!

Exxon's $10B Fill-up: Cashing in on the crunch
Oil companies came under new fire yesterday when it emerged that ExxonMobil's profits are likely to soar above $10 billion this quarter on the back of the fuel crisis.
That's $110 million a day, and more net income than any company has ever made in a quarter. It's also a stunning 69 percent increase over the same period a year ago and a 34 percent jump from the $7.6 billion Exxon made just last quarter.
"Do you realize President Bush has just given a tax break to ExxonMobil?'' thundered Rep. Ed Markey (D-Malden). "Of all the companies in the history of the world that needed a tax break, this month, ExxonMobil should be at the bottom of the list.''
This story kind of speaks for itself, wouldn't you say? Cheney's secret Energy Bill task force (composed primarily of oil company executives from giants including Exxon, and awfully lean on actual scientists) never did release the minutes of their meetings when determining the country's new "energy policy." Let's face it, folks. It wasn't an energy policy. It was a profit policy. And it's paying off in spades.

Let me ask you this... assuming you own and drive a vehicle of some sort, how much did you pay for gas today? Three dollars? Three fifty? Did you vote for Bush and Cheney? Enjoy the benefits of what you have brought about, kids. Elections have consequences. The last couple of them certainly did. You'll keep on draining your wallets and bank accounts to just get from point A to point B and George and Dick's buddies will keep getting richer and richer while we run the rest of the oil out of the ground. And by the time it all runs out? They'll be dead, having "won the game" by dropping dead with the most toys, and your children will pay off the bill.

... or die trying.
