I put Middle Earth Journal in hiatus in May of 2008 and moved to Newshoggers.
I temporarily reopened Middle Earth Journal when Newshoggers shut it's doors but I was invited to Participate at The Moderate Voice so Middle Earth Journal is once again in hiatus.

Bilmon is right on

Over at Whiskey Bar Bilmon has a post on yesterday's tragedy in Iraq and gets it right with this paragraph.
I also hope that any old-fashioned ultra-lefties who are inclined to see all Iraqi insurgents as modern-day equivalents of Che Guevara and the Viet Cong -- and there are still a few out there -- will pay a little attention to the details of today's tanker bombing. Double ditto for ultra-right partisans of the "flypaper" strategy. This is what your cartoon conception of the war against terrorism is doing to the Iraqi people:

The explosion ripped through the marketplace in the heart of the predominantly Shiite town of Musayyib when it was packed with families buying ice cream and shoppers who had come out as the worst of the day's heat ebbed. Many had also gathered at the nearby Shiite mosque around the time of the evening prayer, police sources in Musayyib and Baghdad said. The warren of streets was so congested it was difficult for people to escape as fire raced through the surrounding buildings.

Al Qaeda in Iraq has already claimed responsibility.
Make no mistake, these are not good people. The people who did this are terrorists in every sense of the word. That is not to say that we are not in part responsible for their creation or that there are some genuine "freedom fighters" in Iraq.
