I'm wondering if we haven't just witnessed a turning point in politics. Years from now, when we look back on the "Gang of 14" deal, will we see it as the moment when the tide of conservative Republicanism crested? The balance of power in the Senate is now held by seven moderate Republicans and seven moderate Democrats.Bill Frist is neutered and as a result the influence of the administration and the Radical Christians is diminished. I have suggested the turning point was the Terri Schiavo debacle. The American people saw that those in control were indeed radical wingnuts. I'm not convinced that the compromise is a win, Owen and Brown will still find their way to the courts but I do think that Bush and the Radical Christians ability to stack the Supreme Court witflamingng wingnuts has been reduced.
I temporarily reopened Middle Earth Journal when Newshoggers shut it's doors but I was invited to Participate at The Moderate Voice so Middle Earth Journal is once again in hiatus.

You're Fired!!!!
In my lust for blood I think I missed the significance of the compromise on the filibuster issue. Just the look on Bill Frist's face when the compromise was announced should have been a clue. The seven moderate Republicans essentially gave Karl Rove's and Dick Cheney's hand picked Senate Majority leader his pink slip. They essentially told the Christo-Fascists like Mullah Dobson that they have had enough of their dangerous nonsense. We have seen the progressive Eisenhower Republicans like Running Scared's and Middle Earth Journal's own Jazz Shaw leave the ranks of the Republican Party. Paul Craig Roberts, a Reagan Republican, has been one of the most critical of the Bush administration. As we reported below conservative John Cole is saying things like "the Democrats just don't seem that damned scary anymore." Howard Fineman chimes in:
