More on the National ID Cards continued.....

I talked about the National ID card and HR 418 yesterday. Jill at Brilliant at Breakfast left the following in the comments section.

Here in NJ, they've already made it next to impossible to get a driver's license. They have set up a point system in which you need "six points" worth of ID in order to get or renew your license. A passport alone is not sufficient. The problem is that if you are not married (so you don't have a marriage license), you are not or never were in the armed forces, you do not have a gun permit or pilot's license, you are not a student, and you have long since lost your high school diploma, it's next to impossible to amass enough documentation to get a license, even if, like me, you were born here and have had a license for 33 years. The Department of Motor Vehicles here in Oregon estimates that this will cost the State several million dollars to upgrade their computer system. In addition it will probably require two trips to the DMV to get a license so they can verify your documentation. And you know what, it won't increase security one bit. Most of the 911 hijackers could have obtained drivers licenses under the "Real ID Act".
