I put Middle Earth Journal in hiatus in May of 2008 and moved to Newshoggers.
I temporarily reopened Middle Earth Journal when Newshoggers shut it's doors but I was invited to Participate at The Moderate Voice so Middle Earth Journal is once again in hiatus.

Social Security A Diversion? Revisited

Back in January, when it already looked like Social Security Privitization was a dead horse, the CommonSense Desk asked if it maybe it wasn't just a diversion.
I wonder if the Social Security debate is a classic misdirection play. I had not really thought about that until I read the Moose's post. However, even if our president and his lads act with the same level of absolute hubris that they have approached other issues with they have to know that Social Security is a third rail.

So ~ what if this is not about Social Security but something else. Boy, don't I sound paranoid or crazy. I'll have to think this through.
So, what was it all about? They have managed to push through the bankruptcy bill with enough Democratic support that the Democrats will be unable to use it as an issue when the inevitable backlash occurs. They are about to get drilling in ANWR, something a majority of Americans oppose and will do nothing to solve our energy shortage or decrease our dependence on foreign oil. And you can be sure there is more to come. A "classic misdirection play"? Looks like it could be just that.
