Are American's just too stupid for Democracy?

Or is it the press? It's probably a combination of both. This poll from the Washington Post has some depressing details:
Bad News

59% think the administration is doing a good job on preventing domestic terrorism.

Bush's approval rate on health care is climbing; his disapproval rate is dropping; and they are almost even.

71% believe Social Security is headed for a crisis and 67% think major changes are needed.

56% support a plan that would allow individuals to invest some of their Social Security contributions in the stock market.

52% think the war in Iraq has contributed to the security of the US.

54% think the Iraqis support what we are doing in Iraq.

67% think the Iraqis are now better off because of our invasion and 74% think they will be better off in the long run.

56% think the elections in Iraq will produce a stable government and 61% think the elections advanced the date when our forces can be withdrawn.

61% STILL THINK IRAQ WAS PROVIDING DIRECT SUPPORT TO AL QAEDA BEFORE THE WAR.

56% THINK IRAQ HAD WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION BEFORE THE WAR.

55% believe the admininistration did not lie to the American people before the war but told them what it believed to be true.

A slender majority -- 51% to 48% -- think the war was a mistake.

62% think Iran poses a serious threat to the US.

There was some indication that The administration has not been totally succesful.

Social Security

Overall, do you support or oppose Bush's proposals on Social Security? Do you support/oppose them strongly or somewhat?
Support: 37%...Oppose: 55%

Iraq

Do you think the Bush Administration does or does not have a clear plan for eventually withdrawing most U.S. troops from Iraq?
Does: 32%....Does Not: 64%

Iran

To prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons, would you support or oppose:

Bombing Iranian military targets: Support: 30%......Oppose: 64%

Invading with U.S. forces to remove
the Iranian government from power: Support: 26%......Oppose: 69%

It would appear they may have learned something from the Iraq debacle.
