The other day we discussed that while George W. Bush talks about freedom and democracy in the middle east it probably won't work out they way they would like. Now that same freedom and democracy is causing big problems for the multinational corporations in South America. Tabare Vazquez was sworn in today as the president of Uruguay joining Venezuela's Hugo Chavez, Chile's Ricardo Lagos and Brazil's Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva as left of center politicians who have been elected in South America. Free trade and privitization have resulted in the majority of the population in South America falling into even deeper poverty. When they are given a chance to vote against multinational corporations it not to surprising that they do so. There have been multiple attempts by the US government to oust Hugo Chavez largely because he wont cooperate with the large oil companies and has the nerve to give oil money to the people of Venezuela.
Democracy in the Middle East will result in anti-American and Israeli governments and as we are seeing now Democracy in South America will result in anti-American and anti- multinational corporation governments.
Democracy is incompatible with the imperialistic aspirations of the Bush administration and it's supporters. That's why it's so ridiculous to see Bush talk about freedom and democracy.
