I put Middle Earth Journal in hiatus in May of 2008 and moved to Newshoggers.
I temporarily reopened Middle Earth Journal when Newshoggers shut it's doors but I was invited to Participate at The Moderate Voice so Middle Earth Journal is once again in hiatus.

So Predictable

Anyone who was delusional enough to actually think there was any possibility of peace between the Israelis and Palestinians was given an injection of reality this weekend.
Sharon Threatens to Freeze Peace Efforts
Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon said Sunday that peace efforts with the Palestinians would be frozen if they do not crack down on militant groups in the wake of a weekend suicide bombing that killed four people outside a Tel Aviv nightclub.

The attack Friday and its aftermath broke two weeks of relative calm and strained recently warming relations between the Israelis and Palestinians following the election of moderate Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas last month. Four Israelis were killed and dozens of others were wounded in the bombing.
So what are the realities in the Middle East?

  • Israel is a small country surrounded by millions of people who hate it and feel it is a blight on Islam. No room for negotiation here.

  • While making flowery speeches and being part of photo ops Ariel Sharon knew full well that an attack was inevitable and that attack would give him an excuse to back out of negotiations.

  • This is not about the Palestinians, most of the Arab world could care less about them. They are being used as pawns by the rest of the Arab world to defeat Israel.
The final point is US policy in the Middle East has little or nothing to do with the Security of the United States. The neocons are little more than Likud party representatives and are looking out for the best interests of Israel not the United States. The second faction is made up of the economic imperialists like Cheney who want the resources of the region, primarily oil.
