Global Warming
Global warming is here, it's happening and there is nothing we can do about it. At this point the Kyoto treaty is a bit like throwing rocks at the sea to stop the tide from coming in. Global warming was probably going to happen anyway, the world climate has gone through several cycles of warming and cooling in the last 100,000 years without needing any help from man. Increased CO2 resulting from burning fossil fuels may have sped it up but the horse is out of the barn, we've already burnt about half of it. Global warming is going to have a major impact on the human race. There is evidence that past cycles have resulted in population reductions even before we became dependent on civilization to survive. So what will we see?
- It's going to get a lot warmer in some places and a lot colder in other places. One of the places it will get a lot colder is Eastern North America and Western Europe.
- It's going to be dryer in some places and wetter in other places. Most of North America will be much dryer. The drought in the desert south west is only going to get worse.
- Sea level is going to rise. Eighty to ninety percent of the worlds population live on land that could be submerged.
What is needed is a Kyoto Treaty that brings people together to decide how human kind is going to adapt, not make noise about trying to stop global warming. The reality is we can't stop it.
Oil
The reality, the worlds supply of crude oil is half gone. Demand continues to increase and no real alternatives are on the horizon. It appears that both the politicians and the people of the developed world remain in denial. The ultimate solution will have to include major lifestyle changes by everyone. A politician of either party that suggested this would not get elected. Over the next few years the rise in oil prices will result in life style changes but if it happens too fast the world economy will collapse.
That's reality, the one you won't hear about from either party.
