I put Middle Earth Journal in hiatus in May of 2008 and moved to Newshoggers.
I temporarily reopened Middle Earth Journal when Newshoggers shut it's doors but I was invited to Participate at The Moderate Voice so Middle Earth Journal is once again in hiatus.

Dump the Lord Of Darkness?

One of our favorite NYT media whores, Elisabeth Bumiller, covers the dump Cheney rumor.
The newest theory -- advanced privately by prominent Democrats, including members of Congress holds that Cheney recently dismissed his personal doctor so that he could see a new one, who will conveniently tell him in August that his heart problems make him unfit to run with Bush. The physician, Gary Malakoff, who four years ago declared that Cheney was "up to the task of the most sensitive public office" despite a history of heart disease, was dropped from Cheney's medical team because of an addiction to prescription drugs.

Although many Republicans view Cheney as a liability it seems unlikely that he will not be the VP candidate. Who would they get? We all know that Cheney is running the show.
John McCain
He would probably sew up the election for either Bush or Kerry. The problem is he would not roll over and play dead so Cheney could continue to pull the strings behind the curtain.

Colin Powell
Similar to McCain, not quite as strong as McCain but would be easier to control.

Condi-liar Rice
This is perhaps the most absurd choice. I suspect she would poll even lower than Cheney. Even most Republicans would agree she has been quite incompetent as National Security Advisor. Her choice would put at risk a very important Republican voting block, the bigoted redneck.

Bill Frist
Good political yes man but has proved to be an incompetent Senate Majority Leader. Might look good up against Edwards until the head to head debates when Edwards would cut him to ribbons.

A large block of the Republican Base see Cheney as their man. This is a rumor without any basis in fact. The Lord of Darkness continues to be the odds on favorite as Bush's VP candidate.
