David Brooks wrote the following:
The leaders of the Republican coalition know Romney will lose. But some would rather remain in control of a party that loses than lose control of a party that wins.
Over at
Hullabaloo dday takes it a step further:
I have to conclude that the movement will actively work to stop John McCain in November, just as the establishment of the Democratic party worked to stop George McGovern in 1972, and once again, the derailment will come from the ideological right. Their ideas discredited, their movement endangered, they must resort to sabotage to save themselves.
They would rather lose than give up their power in the Republican party which itself will become powerless if they succeed.
