I put Middle Earth Journal in hiatus in May of 2008 and moved to Newshoggers.
I temporarily reopened Middle Earth Journal when Newshoggers shut it's doors but I was invited to Participate at The Moderate Voice so Middle Earth Journal is once again in hiatus.

Putting the thugs on a leash

Well it would appear that the Republicans in the House are now paying attention to which way the wind is blowing.
Despite Bush opposition, House easily passes ‘Blackwater bill’
Republicans ignored President Bush’s opposition to legislation known as “the Blackwater bill” Thursday, voting in droves with Democrats on the Iraq-related measure.
Now it's understandable that Bush would not want his thugs leashed but it's significant that the House Republicans see their own positions threatened and are willing to go against Bush.
A price too high?
“We’re fighting the good fight on SCHIP,” a Republican aide said. “This is not something we need to force members to pay the price on.”
Apparently Dr. Rice also detects the wind direction and orders some empty gestures.
Rice puts cameras on Blackwater convoys
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice on Friday ordered tighter controls on U.S. security contractor Blackwater, including putting cameras on its convoys, after last month's deadly shootings in Iraq.

State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said dozens of diplomatic security agents would also be sent to Iraq to accompany each convoy protected by Blackwater guards.
Too little too late Condi - Wyatt Earp your not.
