4 Men Charged in Plot to Bomb Kennedy Airport
Federal law enforcement officials and New York City police said today that four people have been charged with conspiring to bomb Kennedy International Airport."One of most chilling plots imaginable"? Well perhaps but was it more like the attempt by some morons from Florida to blow up the Sears Tower or the equally moronic men from New Jersey who were going to attack Fort Dix? It looks like it.
The plan, which was described by United States Attorney Roslynn R. Mauskopf as “one of the most chilling plots imaginable,” involved a former airport worker who is a United States citizen of Guyanese descent and a former member of the Guyanese parliament, who is also an imam.
“Once again would-be terrorists have put New York City in their crosshairs and once again the F.B.I., New York Police Department and other law enforcement agencies have joined forces to stop them,” said Police Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly.
Somehow knowing they can catch the none too bright terrorist wannabes doesn't make me sleep that much easier.
- Sources said the plot involved putting explosives inside the fuel pipeline but realized that "it was not technically feasible."
- One law enforcement official said: "[There was] credible intent to commit violence but it was not operational."
- Officials said the suspects never got hold of explosive devices.
More of the same; in the comments section Lurch reports:
Radio news at 5 PM Eastern time reports there was (at least) one FBI informant in on the plot from the jump, so you know where they got the idea for the bombing. If you can't catch the real terrorists make your own and then bust them.

The relevant information from this report at CNN suggests that the key plotter, Russell Defreitas, is not a bright man.
