I put Middle Earth Journal in hiatus in May of 2008 and moved to Newshoggers.
I temporarily reopened Middle Earth Journal when Newshoggers shut it's doors but I was invited to Participate at The Moderate Voice so Middle Earth Journal is once again in hiatus.

Target Iran

Now I think we all know that the Bush/Cheney administration is about to attack Iran. How do we know? Well for one thing they say they are not and since no one in the Bush/Cheney administration is capable of telling the truth they are. We also have the simple fact that the war mongering neocons know that there won't be anyone in power who supports them after the 2008 elections and they really want to attack Iran. With that in mind this article in The Guardian is no real surprise.
Target Iran: US able to strike in the spring
Despite denials, Pentagon plans for possible attack on nuclear sites are well advanced
US preparations for an air strike against Iran are at an advanced stage, in spite of repeated public denials by the Bush administration, according to informed sources in Washington.
The present military build-up in the Gulf would allow the US to mount an attack by the spring. But the sources said that if there was an attack, it was more likely next year, just before Mr Bush leaves office.

Neo-conservatives, particularly at the Washington-based American Enterprise Institute, are urging Mr Bush to open a new front against Iran. So too is the vice-president, Dick Cheney. The state department and the Pentagon are opposed, as are Democratic congressmen and the overwhelming majority of Republicans. The sources said Mr Bush had not yet made a decision. The Bush administration insists the military build-up is not offensive but aimed at containing Iran and forcing it to make diplomatic concessions. The aim is to persuade Tehran to curb its suspect nuclear weapons programme and abandon ambitions for regional expansion.
So can they be stopped? Via Talking Points Memo we have this from John Dean who says yes.
[T]here is no real question as to whether Congress could legally stop Bush and Cheney from going to war in Iran without coming to Congress to fully explain what they are doing and why. Congress has that power; the only question is whether it will dare to use it.
Most agree that an attack on Iran would be a really bad idea and many agree that the congress has the power to stop it. So will they? Expect to see an attack in the next few weeks and expect to be paying 5-10 dollars a gallon for gasoline, when you can get it, shortly there after.
