So here is the headline:
Bush taking more time to craft Iraq plan
Right, what could be taking so long? Anything other than "stay the course" would require Bush to admit the old course was a failure. Politically this would be a disaster as the only supporters Bush has left are the dwindling number of cultists who thing he can do no wrong. More importantly Bush is simply psychologically incapable of admitting he was wrong - that he failed. This in spite of the fact that he has failed at nearly everything in his life. In the past the rich and powerful family friends were able to bail him out behind the scenes but not this time. James Baker III tried to give him an out of sorts but it still had the appearance of failure so it was a non starter. Bush has two choices, begin withdrawing and admit failure or escalate. Of course he can't escalate enough to do any good because he simply doesn't have 200 to 300 thousand troops available. So he will add 20 to 30 thousand troops and once again hope for a miracle that will postpone the inevitable until he is out of office and the failure can't be pinned on him. In other words "stay the course" with more targets. Still no plan - no strategy, just more of the same. And more will die for nothing more than once last attempt to protect a small man's ego.
