Cut and Run

The Republicans called those congress members who wanted a timetable for withdrawl from Iraq defeatists who want to "cut and run". Well those members have a lot of company in Iraq including Vice President Tariq al-Hashimi.
Top Sunni asked Bush for pullout time line

BAGHDAD, Iraq - Iraq's vice president has asked President Bush for a timeline for the withdrawal of foreign forces from Iraq, the Iraqi president's office said.

Vice President Tariq al-Hashimi, a Sunni, made the request during his meeting with Bush on Tuesday, when the U.S. president made a surprise visit to Iraq.

"I supported him in this," President Jalal Talabani said in a statement released Wednesday. Al-Hashimi's representatives could not immediately be reached for comment Thursday.

So "cut and run" please is what the Iraqis are saying. Of course Bush didn't mention this in his press conference because the administration has no intention of leaving - ever. One of the unspoken reasons for the invasion was always a permanent military presence in the middle east. As we have mentioned earlier if the Iraqi government is going to have any credibility they will sooner or later have to tell the Americans to leave. It is only a matter of time before the Iraqi army and security forces turn on the Americans who have trained and armed them.

A majority of the Iraqis want the US out, a majority of the Americans want the troops home, start bringing them home now.
