Frist Says He's Ready to Block Filibuster
The Democrats should tell Mr Frist to "bring it on". The more we learn about Sam Alito the more it becomes obvious a filibuster is appropriate. Can Frist make good on his threat? I think there is reason to believe he can't. With the increasing possibility the Republicans could once again become the minority party how many of them are going to be willing to eliminate away a procedure they may need in the not to distant future. For the Democrats the filibuster is worthless if they are not going to use it anyway. Frist's threat at this point is seen as divisive and incendiary by the Democrats and in fact may make a filibuster more likely.
Democrats immediately called Frist's words unhelpful and potentially incendiary. They said Senate Democrats are waiting for the Judiciary Committee to act on Alito's nomination before they decide what they may do.So bring it on Mr Frist and show the world why you are the most incompetent Senate majority leader ever.
"Sen. Frist has thrown down the gauntlet at a time when the country least needs it," said New York Sen. Chuck Schumer, a Democratic member of the Judiciary Committee. "The American people know that checks and balances are an integral part of our government."
