I put Middle Earth Journal in hiatus in May of 2008 and moved to Newshoggers.
I temporarily reopened Middle Earth Journal when Newshoggers shut it's doors but I was invited to Participate at The Moderate Voice so Middle Earth Journal is once again in hiatus.

You Know Bush is in Trouble......

....when he's lost that hack Richard Cohen.
In A War Without Winners Richard Cohen gives several examples of a middle east on the edge, ready to explode. It's not a better place because Bush invaded Iraq but a very unstable and dangerous place. He conludes with this:
One could almost forgive President Bush for waging war under false or mistaken pretenses had a better, more democratic Middle East come out of it. But just as the 1991 Persian Gulf War introduced an element of instability in the region -- the rise of al Qaeda in response to the stationing of U.S. troops in Saudi Arabia -- so might this one do something similar. A Shiite arc is forming, Iraq is infested with terrorists and coming apart, Syria might be going from bad to worse, and Saudi Arabia is complaining loudly that the war's only winners are the Shiites and Iran. From here, it looks like a war that is already going badly for America could go even worse for much of the Middle East.

Mission accomplished?
I'm, sorry Mr Cohen, but Americans should never forgive their President for lying to them but your right about "Mission Accomplished", it is any thing but. Of course it's never been clear what the mission was. But at least Cohen is willing to admit that things are not going well in Iraq and Bush's invasion has made things much worse in the middle east and that the Bush administration lied.
