Personally, I think that the Times could have recovered a lot more credibility in White House reporting if they had refused her resignation letter and fired her with cause. But then again, there were various powers-that-be at the Times who were up to the tops of their hip waders in the Bush scandals, so I suppose they had to accept it - the only other alternative being to pretty much fire everyone in management and sell the paper to a new controlling interest.
