I put Middle Earth Journal in hiatus in May of 2008 and moved to Newshoggers.
I temporarily reopened Middle Earth Journal when Newshoggers shut it's doors but I was invited to Participate at The Moderate Voice so Middle Earth Journal is once again in hiatus.

WARNING: This Online Pamphlet is not an echo chamber

... so if that's what you're shopping for, you're in the wrong place. I was just reflecting this morning on the fact that Ron and I can disagree, and have done so, on any number of issues, but the conversation still remains civil and progressive in nature. We disagreed on Harriet Miers. We have previously disagreed on certain aspects of gun control and civil litigation, both here and over at Running Scared. And yet, things remain civil and cordial, and issues are debated in an honest, open fashion.

Not so in the right wing, my friends. I was cruising more right wing blogs this week, and I swear there only two or three conservative bloggers out there, and the rest are just mirror sites that randomly change a couple of prepositions and repost the same material via server bots.

On the one hand, you could have a point to say that the Republicans are more "disciplined" and stay "on message" better, and this leads them to electoral success in many areas. But is that really the kind of success you want? Would you rather arrive at a consensus between a majority of your peers through open discussion and debate, or follow a platform that is dictated by a few powermongers and then blindly followed by a hoard of jackbooted, goose stepping automatons?

This has been your "point to ponder" for Friday. Enjoy the weekend.
