I put Middle Earth Journal in hiatus in May of 2008 and moved to Newshoggers.
I temporarily reopened Middle Earth Journal when Newshoggers shut it's doors but I was invited to Participate at The Moderate Voice so Middle Earth Journal is once again in hiatus.

The Times, Miller and Plamegate

Yesterday in Will it be the end or a new beginning for the Times? we discussed Arianna Huffington's Memo to the Times. Well James Walcott, as only he can, just said with a lot fewer words but a lot more energy what Arianna was trying to say yesterday.
I don't pretend to know what this portends for Scooter, Rover Boy, and the rest. But it's amazing to me that the Times didn't heed the lesson of the mortifying Jayson Blair debacle--that no one reporter should be above the rules and favored as a pet, granted protective status. As with Blair, the red flags were sprouting around Judith Miller's advocacy reporting for years, yet she was accorded the diva status of a Diana Ross or Lauren Bacall by the boys in charge. And as with Blair, some of those boys may no longer be in charge once the dust bunnies settle.
Well said Mr. Wolcott. If the Times doesn't come clean on the Judith Miller affair they deserve to fade into Journalistic oblivion.
