OK, where is the Department of Homeland Security when you need them?A power failure at a King City substation left about 11,000 people without power for hours Tuesday in the southwest metro area.
About 3 p.m., a small animal, probably a squirrel, crawled into the substation and caused a short circuit, said Mark Fryburg, a Portland General Electric spokesman. That shut down the substation, cutting power to customers in Tigard, Tualatin, King City and Durham.
The company dispatched workers to the site soon after the failure began, but rush hour traffic slowed repair efforts, he said.
