I temporarily reopened Middle Earth Journal when Newshoggers shut it's doors but I was invited to Participate at The Moderate Voice so Middle Earth Journal is once again in hiatus.

What the Gulf needs now is another storm!
This may sound terrible and will create a firestorm of it's own, but think about it. The best thing that could happen right now would be another category 4 or 5 hurricane slamming into the gulf region. Bush has announced a 200 billion dollar "reconstruction" project. Make no mistake this project is all about politics; it's all about reconstructing Bush's badly damaged image and getting as much of the 200 billion dollars into the hands of Bush's cronies as possible as quick as possible. The result will be that little or no thought will be given as to what should be rebuilt where. And it's not just the administration; Major Ray Nagin has said that he wants to open New Orleans and let 180,000 people back into the city within a week. Moving people back into the New Orleans Bowl will put them in grave danger. Spending billions to rebuild in the bowl could and probably will be literally throwing money down the drain. Katrina is being treated as an anomaly, a once in every hundred years event. Although many are still in denial there is plenty of evidence to indicate it's not and may represent a new paradigm along the Gulf Coast. Perhaps the only thing that can prevent a massive waste of money and rebuilding that will leave thousands in harms way is another storm. The quicker it happens the more convincing the argument will be and the fewer number of people that will end up in harms way.

I may have spoken too soon, here comes Rita.
