I put Middle Earth Journal in hiatus in May of 2008 and moved to Newshoggers.
I temporarily reopened Middle Earth Journal when Newshoggers shut it's doors but I was invited to Participate at The Moderate Voice so Middle Earth Journal is once again in hiatus.

The next belly flop

First it was Social Security Privatization, the more Bush talked about it the less people liked it and him. Then it was Terri Schiavo, that debacle will have to go down as one of the classic political belly flops of all time. The Iraq war has been a painful slow motion belly flop. Now we have a hurricane named Katrina. I suggested that Bush's grand reconstruction project announced at a made for prime time television set would not buy him any additional support and would cost him support among the base. Well the verdict is in and I was right.
Another belly flop:
Bush Katrina Ratings Fall After Speech
September 18, 2005--Thirty-five percent (35%) of Americans now say that President Bush has done a good or excellent job responding to Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath. That's down from 39% before his speech from New Orleans.

The latest Rasmussen Reports survey shows that 41% give the President poor marks for handling the crisis, that's up 37% before the speech.
And what about that base?
Following the speech, the President's rating for handling the Katrina crisis fell eight points among Republicans (from 71% good or excellent to 63%). The President also draws good or excellent marks from 11% of Democrats and 31% of those not affiliated with either major political party.
Looks like another belly flop to me.
