I put Middle Earth Journal in hiatus in May of 2008 and moved to Newshoggers.
I temporarily reopened Middle Earth Journal when Newshoggers shut it's doors but I was invited to Participate at The Moderate Voice so Middle Earth Journal is once again in hiatus.

Gimme dat ole' time religion

... and we dun need no gays or 'bortions 'round heah, ya'll.

Americablog points us to the roundup of all the fun filled events at "Justice Sunday Part II: Revenge of the Homophobes."
Prominent conservative political and religious leaders called Sunday night for Senate approval of Supreme Court nominees who will vote to end the constitutional right to abortion, against recognition of same-sex marriage and for fewer restrictions on religious expression in public places.

The Supreme Court has sanctioned "the right to kill unborn children" and opened the door to legalized "homosexual sodomy," declared Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council, which co-sponsored "Justice Sunday II."

Now before you get all up in arms, try to look at the good news coming out of this. At least Perkins and the FRC have finally taken a stab (*cough*) at the truth, refined their rhetoric and are specifying that it's only "homosexual sodomy" which is the problem. I mean, if you're a conservative, right wing, born-again neocon, there's nothing wrong with a bit of sport sodomy with your wife, girlfriend, mistress, or that 13 year old Singapore girl you had sent to your hotel room during your last Jack Abramoff sponsored junket to Asia, right? It's just them damned homeo-sex-yules that we don't want doing any of that there sodomy stuff, eh Tony?

While they had a veritable No Queers Day Parade of speakers, any one of which I'm sure could have entertained Middle Earth Journal readers for hours on end, there was one who, as Americablog points out, truly stood head and shoulders above the crowd. It was none other than Robert Bork. You remember him, right? Former Supreme Court nominee? Fortunately, that was back in the day when the progressives had a considerably larger market share on both legislative power and backbone, so good ole' Bob's nomination was beaten back. The GOP, however, took that has a tremendous insult, and even adopted the guy's name as a verb, vowing to make sure that the Democrats didn't "Bork" any more of their nominees, such as John Roberts. A few words from the Borg Bork.
Rejected Supreme Court nominee Robert H. Bork warned that the high court has defined homosexuality as "a constitutional right . . . and once homosexuality is defined as a constitutional right, there is nothing the states can do about it, nothing the people can do about it."
Yeah... that's really who we wanted to be appointed for life to the highest court in the land. "Borked" indeed. Detonated before he could blow up the constitution is more like it.
