I try to walk a mile or two everyday. Three to four times a week a drive into Beaverton to do my walking in the
Tualatin Hills Nature Park. In addition to being healthy for my body the walks in the nature park are good for my soul. It is a natural gem in an urban wilderness. Today
The Oregonian has a story about the park in the
Washington County Weekly section,
Beaverton park an arena for exploration, recreation.
The 216-acre park at Southwest Tualatin Valley Highway east of 170th Avenue is a summer hub for hikers, bikers, campers and nature lovers. Environmentalists hail the heavily wooded site with its ecologically diverse plant, animal and bird life as a crucial balance to the massive loss of open space in Washington County in recent years.
The 140,000 visitors who come to the park each year enjoy walking and biking trails, ranger-led interpretive programs, nature camps for children, plant sales, scouting opportunities, leaders-in-training program for high schoolers and birthday parties under the open skies.
If you live in the Portland Area check out this natural gem. You might see a deer, coyote, great horned owl, piliated woodpecker or rabbit. You are almost guaranteed to see a squirrel.
