Military Families to Join Cindy Sheehan in Crawford; Gold Star and Military Families from Across Country on Their Way to TexasI can appreciate the suffering that Ms. Sheehan has endured, and as such I sympathize with her efforts and her cause. The one question I still have to ask, though, is why? Why camp outside his ranch asking for an audience with the boy king? It can only have two results. First, he can refuse to meet her and continue to show his complete and total disdain for anyone who disagrees with him or remarks on his duplicitous "leadership" and leave her to bake in the heat. Or, perhaps even more offensive, he can have her brought in and just repeat the same old platitudes over and over, about how bad he feels for her, but "our cause is just and we have to stay and finish the job to honor your son's sacrifice." I don't think she's feeling very honored at this point. As the article goes on to state,
More members of Gold Star Families for Peace (GSFP) and Military Families Speak Out (MFSO) are traveling to Texas to join the protest outside of President Bush's ranch in Crawford, Texas, where he is vacationing for the month of August.Starting today, Gold Star families from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Arkansas and other states whose loved ones have died as a result of the war in Iraq will be joining one of their members, Cindy Sheehan, at the protest. Ms. Sheehan, whose son Army Specialist Casey Sheehan was killed in Sadr City, Iraq on April 4, 2004, has been in Crawford since August 5th, demanding a meeting with the President. These families will be joined by military families with loved ones currently serving in Iraq or about to deploy or redeploy to Iraq. All of these families are coming to Crawford, Texas to share their stories about the personal costs of the war in Iraq and add their voices to the call for a meeting with President Bush.
Gold Star and military families coming to Crawford know that the cause was not noble; that their loved ones died, or are currently in harm's way, serving in a war based on lies. But if you think the President's response (or lack thereof) is ugly, check out what some of the most hateful, spiteful voices from the right wing are saying about the grieving mother of a soldier who gave his life in Bush's war. I'm referring, of course, to none other than diminutive, racist blogger, Michelle Malkin.
I can't imagine Army Spc. Casey Sheehan would stand for his mother's crazy accusations that he was murdered by his commander-in-chief, rather than the Iraqi terrorists who ambushed his convoy. I can't imagine Army Spc. Casey Sheehan would stand for a bunch of strangers glomming onto his mother's crusade and using him to undermine the war effort as they shouted "W killed her son" in front of countless TV cameras.Cindy Sheehan has surrounded herself with a group of anti-American, anti-military, terrorist-sympathizing agitators, including Code Pink, the Crawford Peace House, and the crackpot crowd.
Oh, really, Michelle? So now you are a speaker for the dead, are you? You know exactly how Spc. Sheehan would feel were he brought back to life today, do you? Not everyone who wears our nation's uniform automatically becomes a rabid, right wing, Bush loving war monger. You might want to consider Sean Huze, author of The Sandstorm. Sean is only one of a growing number of men and women who did their time in Iraq, served their country faithfully and valiantly, and then came home, as civilians, to speak out about how wrong this all is. Perhaps she should talk to the veterans who belong to Truthout.org. I'm sure they could enlighten her on what some soldiers would "stand for" and they have a far better perspective than her chickenhack point of view. Taken from the echo chamber of his unit and given a second chance at life, don't you suppose that Spc. Sheehan might like a chance to have his life back? And to ask why the reasons he was given for having to go into harms way turned out to be at best, massive incompetence, and more likely an intentional blend of malfeasance and mendacity?
Shakespeare's Sister, as always, has more goodies on this. Pay her a visit.
