Should a temporary majority of 50.7 percent have control over the entire United States government? Should 49.3 percent of Americans have no influence over the nation's trajectory for the next generation? That's a very good question but I have another. When it comes to Roe VS Wade do the political realists in the Republican party really want Roe VS Wade overturned? There is no doubt that the Radical Christian wing of the party does but the political reality is Roe VS Wade is the hot button that has been responsible for the Republicans rise to dominance in the US. Roe VS Wade is responsible for the bankruptcy bill, for the tort reform bill, for relaxed environmental regulations, for massive tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans. Without the Roe VS Wade hotbutton the Republicans would not be in charge and none of those things would have happened. The real question for the political realists in the Republican party is how can they have their cake and eat it too. How do you keep the Radical Christian Right happy and keep the hotbutton. The Democrats/progressives have it easy--we know what we want--no balancing act required. Not so for the Republicans, they have to walk the tightrope over the ideological chasm they have created.
Just a thought--what do you think?
