The Defense Department quietly asked Congress on Monday to raise the maximum age for military recruits to 42 for all branches of the service.Under current law, the maximum age to enlist in the active components is 35, while people up to age 39 may enlist in the reserves. By practice, the accepted age for recruits is 27 for the Air Force, 28 for the Marine Corps and 34 for the Navy and Army, although the Army Reserve and Navy Reserve sometimes take people up to age 39 in some specialties.
The Pentagon’s request to raise the maximum recruit age to 42 is part of what defense officials are calling a package of “urgent wartime support initiatives” sent to Congress Monday night prior to a Tuesday hearing of the House Armed Services military personnel subcommittee.
Let's see... now there are all sorts of chickenhacks who should have no difficulty heading on down to the recruiting center and signing up for a tour of duty with the leathernecks in Fallujah to really support the war they love so much. Michelle Malkin, Captain Ed, the Brothers Judd, the entire Powerline crew... I'm afraid Betsy Newmark is still a bit too old, but hey... give them another six months and you'll probably be able to get in.
Take a tour of some of these sites today and drop off some comments in the sections of the few that actually allow you to comment. Let them know how proud you are of them, and how you're looking forward to their posting their enlistment contracts as soon as they sign them.
Ron and I would, but... oh, wait. That's right. We actually DID our time in the military and are well over the max age anyway.
Ah well. I'm sure these young conservatives will rush in to fill the void.
