Now there is a guy that has an amazing grasp of the obvious.
Calif. Congressman Won't Seek Re-Election
SAN MARCOS, Calif. - A California congressman who is under federal investigation for his dealings with a defense contractor announced Thursday that he will not seek re-election.Don't you just love it when the slime hits the fan. I would guess his decision making was aided by the Republican Party--a Tom DeLay he's not.
U.S. Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham made the disclosure at a hastily arranged news conference.
"The time has come for me to conclude the public chapter in my life," the eight-term San Diego-area Republican said, reading from a brief written statement. "Quite simply, right now I may not be the strongest candidate."
His term ends in January 2007.
"I can do my work in Washington, and I can defend myself against these allegations," Cunningham said. "But I don't think I can do either of these things effectively in the midst of a political campaign."
