.....what does it mean? In reality it's just another indication that the Hamiltonian Federalists have won. Their vision of the United States was one where the individual states were little more than voting districts with most power in the hands of the central/federal government. Largely because of the slavery issue, the Southern States were not going to buy into this model. The entire States Rights issue died for all intents and purposes when the South lost the civil war. Every States Rights issue since then has simply been another nail in the coffin, the model has been long dead.
Of course we hear cries about States Rights from all sides of the political spectrum when federal intervention interferes with a specific agenda. I personally think the abolition of slavery and the civil rights act were the correct things to do. While I believe the medical marijuana decision was wrong I also recognize that the legal precedent is no different than the civil rights act. It's time to bury the States Right argument once and for all, it's long dead.
