More on "Smoking Guns"

Yesterday I discussed how the real smoking gun may be insecurity rather than the lies and deceptions brought to light in the Downing Street Memos. Bob Herbert has a commentary today on how not enough want to serve in the military headed by the worst Commander in Chief ever and the worst Secretary of Defense ever. The New York Times has another smoking barrel. Sabrina Tavernise and John F. Burns tell us:

Despite the Bush administration's insistent optimism, Americans working with the Iraqis in the field believe that it could be several years, at least, before the new Iraqi forces will be ready to stand alone against the insurgents.

So how do you spell quagmire? I-R-A-Q.

The lies don't matter until they start to hurt and make people feel insecure and unprotected.
