I put Middle Earth Journal in hiatus in May of 2008 and moved to Newshoggers.
I temporarily reopened Middle Earth Journal when Newshoggers shut it's doors but I was invited to Participate at The Moderate Voice so Middle Earth Journal is once again in hiatus.

Will Dr. Frist abort the filibuster compromise

It was obvious that Mullah Doctor Senator Frist was not happy about the filibuster compromise. He is now under considerable pressure from the Radical Christian Wingnuts to bring up the name of William Myers for the next judicial vote which will trigger a filibuster by the Democrats and force the seven Republicans to decide if the compromise will stand. David Kirkpatrick has the details in Judicial Nominee Compromise Under G.O.P. Pressure.
As senators headed home for a Memorial Day recess, the delicate compromise was under mounting pressure from Republican leaders and conservative groups who want to disarm the power of the Democratic minority to block votes on judicial nominees.

With the possibility of a Supreme Court vacancy when the court finishes its term at the end of next month, some conservative groups and members of the Republican caucus are pressing Dr. Frist to revive the fight over the confirmation rules as soon as he can by moving ahead with a vote on Mr. Myers.
Frist is in a position where he must challenge the compromise to maintain his standing with his Christian Wingnut base and continue to look like a Senate Majority Leader.
"This is a direct challenge to Bill Frist," Patrick J. Buchanan, the former Republican presidential candidate, wrote in a column this week. If Dr. Frist and the Republican leadership accept the compromise, Mr. Buchanan wrote, "they will invite the contempt of the people who sent them here with a conservative mandate." After the compromise was reached, some Republican senators made no effort to hide their disappointment and impatience.
I never thought the compromise was worth a damn. It would appear that three of the worst judges got a free pass and when the 4th comes up we will be right back where we were before the compromise. As I said all along a compromise is not possible when the other side can't be trusted to hold up their end of the bargain.

Tip of the hat to the Common Sense Desk for the link.
