Don't Blame The Troops

Jazz has a good post over at Running Scared on the incident where American troops fired on the car containing the recently freed Italian journalist, Giuliana Sgrena. This is indeed an unfortunate incident but the blame should not be placed on the American troops but on the driver of the car. The situation being what it is in Iraq the Americans must assume that a speeding vehicle that does not follow orders to stop is the enemy. If you are going to travel around Iraq there are certain rules you must abide by, one of those is stop at American checkpoints when directed to do so. The American troops should not and never should have been in Iraq but we should not condemn the troops for this unfortunate accident.
