My apologies for the short post this Sunday morning, but I'm watching Rummy on Meet the Press. His world view always slips out when you get him answering questions in an unscripted setting. When asked to comment about continuing insurgent attacks and the possibility of the Iraqis setting up a fundamentalist Islamic government, Rumsfeld spake thusly:
"You know, in a situation like this, there are always going to be surprises."
ummm..... 'Surprises'? I hope this guy doesn't plan 10 year olds' birthday parties.
"Secretary Rumsfeld, why can't we say when our troops will be coming home? What's wrong with telling the Iraqis, 'Look. In three months we're pulling out fifty thousand, so you better have fifty thousand of your troops trained by then.'?"
"The reason is that these things are unknowable. We know that we don't know."
What? Does this guy even know what he's talking about himself?
