Local newspapers across U.S. devoted editorials to Gannongate
As of February 22, none of the five largest U.S. newspapers* (USA Today, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, the Los Angeles Times and The Washington Post) had devoted an editorial on any aspect of the recent revelation that former Talon News Washington bureau chief and White House correspondent Jeff Gannon (aka James D. Guckert) was permitted to attend White House press briefings under an alias and despite having no credentials as a journalist. By contrast, numerous smaller newspapers -- ranging in size from the Houston Chronicle and Minneapolis Star-Tribune to several college newspapers -- have examined the issue in editorials.My local Newspaper, The Oregonian, is mentioned and they did have an excellent editorial, The "Jeff Gannon" story which they lead with
It illustrates the far superior success of right-wing bloggers over lefties in getting mainstream media to jump on newsThe reality is there has still been no coverage of the story in the news portion of the conservative Oregonian. The lack of coverage of this story is nothing short of Pravada like censorship of a significant story that has national security implications. If something far less significant had happened during the Clinton administration it would have been on the front page of every newspaper in the country. Welcome to the land of Soviet Style Journalism.

I should add that I realize the lack of coverage is not entirely the fault of the smaller local newspapers since they depend on feeds from news services like AP and the big 5 Newspapers.
