I put Middle Earth Journal in hiatus in May of 2008 and moved to Newshoggers.
I temporarily reopened Middle Earth Journal when Newshoggers shut it's doors but I was invited to Participate at The Moderate Voice so Middle Earth Journal is once again in hiatus.

Key Democrat says NO to Bush Social Security Reform

Thanks to Bill in DC

Benefits Plan Costs President Key Democrat
Senator Max Baucus of Montana, a Democrat whose support was essential to the enactment of President Bush's tax cuts in 2001 and his Medicare legislation in 2003, said on Thursday that he would oppose the president's Social Security plan this year.
In addition Josh Marshall reported yesterday that Sen. Arlen Specter was not going to support the plan and Bull Moose reported that the Republican Lawmakers are very divided on reform including some like Tom DeLay who consider it too hot to handle. It appears at this point that it may be dead on arrival. Judging from previous actions by the adolescent in the White House he will probably throw a temper tantrum and burn up any "political capitol" he may have had. With the massive PR blitz by the AARP the Republican Lawmakers are going to be looking ahead to 2006 and looking out for their own hides and not the hide of a lameduck president.
